GULF SHORES, Ala. (AP) - Alabama officials are hoping to get emergency approval to move a giant sand pile in Gulf Shores to repair erosion in front of beachfront homes before tourism season.
Vince Calametti of the Alabama Department of Transportation tells the Mobile Press-Register that other government agencies are on board with the move.
Homeowners asked the town's council for help in January to get the sand to bolster their beachfront. Some homeowners say the erosion is due to dredging at a nearby pass.
