MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WPMI) State officials and school leaders are working on a plan to make sure students are safe in emergencies.
This comes on the heels of a deadly elementary school massacre in Connecticut last month.
Teachers spoke at Wednesday's meeting, some against administrators carrying guns. But most were on the same page when it comes to increasing security.
"It is important that teachers be informed if and when there is a safety threat and ensure they have a safety plan for their own individual classroom and are familiar with the school safety plan," said teacher Marla Vaughn.
Also proposed Wednesday was practicing drills with students to make sure they're in the loop.
