MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI)   If you have been on campus at the University of South Alabama lately, you may not recognize it. Millions and millions of dollars of new construction, thousands more students, and the respect of the academic world.

For over the last three decades, the go-to guy in the admissions office has been Doctor David Stearns.

For 34 years, he has been recruiting students to South Alabama, championing for the scholarship program and helping create one of the premier universities in the country.

But after 34 years, the man who has meant so much to tens of thousands of students is calling it a career.

"One of the things I'm most proud of is to see a lot of students, and to help a lot of students who needed help," Stearns said.

Thursday at 10 p.m., Local 15 News will take a look back at Dr. Stearns career at South Alabama, what he has meant to the school and talk with the folks who know him best.

And what type of golden parachute will he land into retirement with? My guess is he has been easily making over 6 figures in salary for decades and his retirenemt checks probably will be about the same amount. Is he the dude that has recruited the thousands of foreign immigrants that get to attend USA tuition free? Meanwhile the US born students that attend USA are up to their necks in student loans that will take a lifetime to repay.
