(MOBILE, Ala.) Marcia Stabler has a lot to think about.
Her husband is a law enforcement officer in Alabama, and it was through him that she came to know slain Baldwin County Sheriff's Deputy Scott Ward.
"I think we've lost a good man," she said. "I think we've lost a good officer."
Ward was gunned down Friday night during a confrontation with a man who officials say was mentally unstable.
Stabler is a Vice President at the First National Bank of Baldwin County.
And she doesn't have to look too far down the hall to find someone else grieving the loss of Deputy Ward.
"I think he was very kind, just a kind, gentle soul," said Ashton Dale.
Dale is also an employee at the bank.
She met Deputy Ward when she was working with Ward's new wife, Andrea, at another bank.
Dale says the two newlyweds were avid bodybuilders.
In fact, Deputy Ward actually was his wife's trainer.
That's how they fell in love, she said.
"She just adored him," she said. "But he adored her. They loved each other."
Now both women hurt for Deputy Ward's wife.
"I can't imagine," says Dale. "I would just love her and cry with her."
But it's a loss that Marcia Stabler can begin to understand.
"My thoughts and prayers are with her," she said. "I know how bad she's hurting. If there's anything we can do, just let us know."
