Shelby Cries Foul in Tanker Competition
(MOBILE COUNTY, Ala.) Oct. 26 - Alabama Senator Richard Shelby is crying foul in the competition for a $35 billion Air Force tanker contract.
Shelby believes the process clearly favors Boeing over Northrop Grumman and he says our troops are the people losing out.
In a new letter to Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, Shelby expressed serious concerns about the draft request proposal for the tanker contract.
"The draft RFP creates a cost shootout where the lowest priced bid wins, regardless of capabilities offered," Shelby wrote. "Such a race to the bottom is unworthy of our men and women in uniform."
Shelby and other Alabama congressmembers will talk more about their concerns at a news conference Tuesday.
