(MOBILE, Ala.) - The Salvation Army will not be allowed to rezone its headquarters.
The Mobile City Council turned down the request today.
Some Midtown residents were concerned about the organization's plan to tear down an abandoned thrift store on Dauphin Street to build a parking lot.
Residents were also worried an expansion would bring more homeless people to the neighborhood.
Now we're learning why the city council unanimously voted no on the proposal.
"It was a chance to say we're 100% behind the community and 100% behind the neighbors. You guys know exactly what needs to be here,” says City Councilman William Carroll.
He went on to say that one of the biggest concerns was an added.
