NEW ORLEANS, La. (WPMI)   Since Hurricane Katrina, sporting events like Saints games have served as a major catalyst for recovery in New Orleans. So even though the Saints aren't in the Super Bowl, fans are sporting their black and gold more than ever.

Since 2005, sporting events like the BCS National Championship and the Sugar Bowl, have brought in well over $1 billion to New Orleans. The Super Bowl is just the icing on the cake.

Saints fans say wearing their jerseys is more about supporting the community as a whole and to tell the world that NOLA is back and better than ever.

Local 15's Christian Jennings talked with Saints quarterback Pierre Thomas Friday. He said he was seeing all the Saints jerseys and fans, and witnessing the Super Bowl frenzy makes him hungry to play in the Super Bowl next year.
