SANTA ROSA COUNTY, Fla. (WPMI) A man is behind bars in Santa Rosa County, Florida, after officials say he led police on a high speed chase and even ran over a deputy.
Deputies were called to a home on Cosico Boulevard around 9 Thursday night in reference to a domestic dispute. The suspect, 36-year-old Dominic Turner, was sitting in a vehicle in the driveway and refused to get out. Officials say Turner took off in the car.
Just before midnight, deputies spotted Turner in Pace, Florida, at Highway 90 and Watkins Street. They tried to stop him, but Turner took off, leading police on a long chase through Pace and Milton.
Officials say Turner drove against the flow of traffic and avoided spike strips. They say Turner spotted an officer deploying the spike strips, and deliberately drove toward that officer, hitting him and throwing him into the air. The officer suffered a broken knee and multiple bruises and lacerations.
Turner also drove into another patrol car after hitting the deputy. The pursuit ended on Highway 87 near Pleasant Grove Road.
Officials say Turner fought with officers, so they sent out a K9 unit.
Turner is charged with attempted felony murder, aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence and fleeing/eluding a law enforcement officer with injuries and/or damage. Turner was also charged with the original domestic violence charges from the incident in Navarre.
