GULF SHORES, Ala. (WPMI) Mardi Gras was celebrated beach style in both Gulf Shores and Orange Beach on Fat Tuesday.

Festivities on Pleasure Island went off without any delays or cancelations. The 10 a.m. parade in Gulf Shores was ushered in with a few raindrops, but nothing to keep the crowd from lining the streets.

In Orange Beach, the parade was moved up by a half hour, a smart move by organizers giving everyone a better chance to enjoy ahead of any heavy rain forecast for the area.

Revelers were on a mission. Many in the crowd, snowbirds, hailed from northern states like Michigan, Illinois and Wisconsin.

Local 15's James Gordon even met a king and a queen from Pensacola.

"We just here to have fun. We are from Pensacola and we love the beach and we are here to party. Oh yes to party!" said King Steve.

The crowd was estimated at 10,000 in Gulf Shores and a little less in Orange Beach.
