Restaurant Scorecard: Three Temporary Closings
(PENSACOLA, Fla.) Sept. 3 - Typically the name “Jin Jin” means good luck, however after inspectors discovered this new Pensacola restaurant was operating without running water their luck soon ran out! Lack of running water along with a few other violations had inspectors temporarily shutting down Jin Jin Restaurant located on Hwy 98.
But, they weren't alone. We also uncovered bone dry conditions at the Waffle House down the street. We contacted Waffle House corporate leaders in Atlanta who owned up to a few other infractions, but said the broken water main was out of their control.
Escambia County officials fixed the pipes, while Jin Jin and Waffle house worked to get back on health officials good side. They reopened the next day, but only after passing a follow up inspection.
It wasn't water, but roaches which prompted Florida's third dining room disruption this week. Inspector's August 25 report shows "excessive" roaches at Jin Jin Chinese Restaurant located on Brickyard Road in Chipley. Jin Jin reopened he next day after passing re-inspection.
Next, Fast Times in Daphne. Toxic items improperly stored, a dirty ice and dirty coke machine nozzles. Inspectors also found grease on the ground near the grease container. Fast Times serves up Baldwin County's only below average score this week, only 81 out of 100 possible points.
In Mobile we discover some restaurants are hiding more than their secret recipe. We went to Dodge’s Store located on Schillinger Road and discovered the restaurant was still not in compliance. We did not find the results of their health inspection posted. When asked why it wasn’t posted in plain sight, something required by state codes an unidentified manager replied, “its still in the back. I haven't posted it yet!" I’ll go and get it and put it up in the restaurant, said the manager.
We later discovered it wasn't the "chicken" wings, but an aging and leaky roof that had them serving up only 83 out of 100 points. Remember, 85 and higher is considered passing. NBC15 News hung around long enough to make sure the manager put his health rating back up where it belong. Meantime take a look at who is making it look easy this week as our Scorecard Standouts.
Roly Poly located in Foley and Something Sweet Bake Shop in Daphne, just a few of the area businesses serving up perfect marks of 100 this week. For a history of health ratings where you live, click onto the link where you live.
