(ALABAMA) - Some Alabama resident are pushing to make medical marijuana legal after two landmark votes last week.
A rally was held Wednesday at the Alabama State House in Montgomery. It was followed by a hearing for the "Alabama Medical Marijuana Patient's Rights Act."
"You're going through cancer treatment or you have seizures or MS or anything like that, there's proven medical benefit from the use of marijuana," said Rep. Patricia Todd, (D) Birmingham.
"There's not a lot of research that supports that," added Dr. John Couch with the Physicians' Pain Specialists of Alabama.
Marijuana for medicinal purposes is legal in 17 states. The Alabama Medical Marijuana Coalition is asking those who would benefit from this legislation to come out and support their cause at the state capital.
