(MOBILE, Ala.) - Murphy High School students and parents met with Mobile County School administrators Wednesday night at the Mobile Civic Center to discuss the temporary move to Clark-Shaw Magnet School.
Murphy High School was heavily damaged by the Christmas Day EF-2 tornado that touched down in Midtown Mobile. Students will learn in portable trailers at Clark-Shaw Magnet School, as well as in parts of the school itself.
Mobile County Schools Superintendent Martha Peek told a crowded Mobile Civic Center Theater she hopes that won't be for long.
"We will have students back on the Murphy campus in August," Peek said. "The caveat with that is we may move those modular trailers one more time."
Wednesday night Peek and other school system administrators spoke to parents and students about school hours, dress code and transportation. Among the noteworthy changes, administrators said Murphy students will start and finish their school day a little later than most, and everyone will ride the bus to the Clark-Shaw campus.
"There will be parking at the Murphy campus, and we'll be running buses because we have the debris cleaned up there enough to do that," Peek said. "They won't have as far to drive, or be in the traffic."
School administrators said they will provide security for student vehicles parked at Murphy High School.
