MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) Students were outraged after a preacher came on campus shouting racially charged comments and homophobic comments.
It was a normal day for students like Rebecca Lathem until she and others received an unsettling message.
"God hates U-S-A! Us as students!," said Lathem.
She added, "I yelled at him 'No!' You're wrong! God doesn't hate anybody! God loves everybody!"
Students recorded video of the preacher on campus Tuesday morning to spread the good news, but to students it was more like insults.
Tyler Bolen said he was on his way to the student center when the preacher pointed him out. "I was minding my business. He called me out calling me a 'Justin Beiber homo lover."
"It's hard. Words really do hurt. It was embarrassing in front of all these people," added Bolen.
Students stated rowdy crowds gathered as the unwanted preacher continued shouting obscene things for hours.
Becca Bell is a freshman as USA. She said his comments could be considered harassment and verbal abuse.
"He called other people whores, used a race card black whore, a crack whore. He had more respect for whores than he did homosexuals. It was a lot of slanderous," said Bell.
Vice President of Student Affairs Michael Mitchell stated, "That type of behavior is certainly not welcome on our campus by students, faculty, staff, or visitors."
According to USA, the front of the student center is the free speech zone, the preacher was in the right place, but he did not register with the school before showing up. USA Police escorted the preacher off campus and students hope to keep it that way.
"He does not need to be screaming at us. That's wrong. It's very wrong. It goes completely against everything Christianity is," said Lathem.
USA officials stated they will continue to investigate the issue. They said if they find hate to be the main theme of the preacher's speech, then they will take the necessary action.
Until then, the preacher will have to spread his message some where else.
