(Frisco City, Ala.) June. 1 - Frisco City Police and Monroe County Deputies are on the search for two suspects who they say shot at a police officer several times during a traffic stop. It happened around 1:00 this morning in Frisco City which is in Monroe County. The officer was not hit. As NBC 15 news found out, authorities say they can't believe nobody else was hurt.

It started when a silver corvette sped down Route 21 in Frisco City around one 1:00 this morning. Going 65 miles an hour in a 25 mile an hour zone, Chief Ronald Marshall attempted a traffic stop. Problem is, the 2 men in the car didn't stop….instead, they drove faster. And when Chief Marshall saw flashes of orange, he knew he was in trouble. Marshall says, "The subjects attempted to fire an assault rifle at me and I returned fire at those subjects.  The subjects then got into the vehicle and fled the scene."

Chief Marshall says the two men fired multiple times at him. He fired back. Marshall says, "It could've been very dangerous for people out on the roadway. With the subjects firing at random from the vehicle and traveling at an extremely high rated speed, we're very thankful no one got injured."

"And those thugs better watch out for us because we have a police chief that's gonna take care of them if they come back to town." Former Frisco City Mayor Dorothy Sims tells me she thinks the suspects may have had something in their car they didn't want police to see. Something Chief Marshall Agrees with. He says, "They could’ve been drinking, had something illegal in the vehicles, at this point we don’t know but it’s under investigation."

Sims says, "We got a good police force, we got good deputies and they're gonna take care of is so please tell the thugs to watch out when they come through Frisco City."

Authorities say the two suspects were last seen driving a silver corvette and were believed to be heading toward Baldwin County.
