PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) - The Jackson County Port Authority has set aside $1.8 million for surfacing and drainage improvements at the Port of Pascagoula.

The authority is awarding the money to Talley Contracting under a contract for improvements to the port's south terminal.

The project calls for expanding the port's storage and cargo space and providing better drainage.

The state transportation department and the port are splitting the cost of the project, which is expected to take about 120 days to complete.

The port's two harbors handle more than 35 million tons of cargo annually.
