(MOBILE, Ala.) - After a 30 year hiatus, a once very popular barbecue joint is back in business.

Ossie's first opened its doors back in 1955, but closed down in the 80's. On Monday, Ossie's made a come back, opening on Government Street in the old Arby's building.

Ossie's had been closed for three decades, so the memories were flowing back for old customers.

"My husband Sherman and I were dating in '60 and '61. On Friday and Saturday night, and we'd come here to Ossie's. It was just the only place to be," said Sandy Cherry.

The owner said they had customers lined up outside the door 30 minutes before they opened. In fact, they ran out of food around 2 p.m. opening day.

Jan - it's not downtown (unfortunately) It's in the old Arby's near Azalea almost exactly where the original Ozzie's was (That's neat even thought it's not downtown)(SOme of the new media folks call that Government Street although us Mobilians always say Government Blvd or Hwy 90 for that strentch after you pass Pinehill Dr. heading west. Perhaps if they get it going again like years ago another can be opened downtown - maybe the old Krispy Kreme location - hmm.
