MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) One year after an officer was killed in the line of duty, law enforcement, citizens, family and friends take the time to reflect on the memory of a fallen hero.
Green was killed in the line of duty February 3, 2012 as he was transporting a robbery suspect to Metro Jail.
The late officer's wife, Valerie Green, issued a statement, saying she "appreciates all the prayers and support she and her family have received from the community."
The Mobile Police Department issued the following statement:
"Today, on the one year anniversary of the death of Mobile Police Officer Steven Green, the Department, as a whole, remembers our brother who paid the ultimate sacrifice while guarding the citizens of the city of Mobile, as he was sworn to do. Our thoughts are also with his wife, children and the rest of Steve's family."
Officer Green is being remembered by individuals, as well.
A Facebook page made in honor of the late officer has an outpouring of supportive messages to his family and of his lasting legacy.
