(MOBILE, Ala.) Sheriff's deputies are on the hunt for a man posing as a police officer.
Authorities say the man pulled over a 16-year-old girl in Semmes near the corner of Wulff and Nursery roads Saturday night.
The girl was not harmed but very shaken up. After all the road was dark, secluded and she was only going three miles over the speed limit. So when this officer pulled her over without a badge on his body or marking on his car, she knew something was off.
"We just want the community to be aware so no one gets hurt," said the victim's mother who wishes to keep her and her daughter's name private.
She's still frightened for her daughter's safety after a man, claiming to be a cop, pulled her daughter over.
"It was after 10:30 and she was on her way home. Conditions were really foggy it was really thick. The lights came on so she pulled over at Semmes First Baptist Church," the mother said.
Then the man got out and walked up to the 16-year-old's window.
"She said sir do you need my ID? You didn't ask for my ID? And he got aggravated and said, Are you questioning my authority?" said the victim's mother.
Next she says he asked her to get out of the car.
"She said sir I don't feel comfortable doing that. Could you call another deputy to the scene?"
The man refused to call for back up and eventually let the teen go, saying "I'll get you next time."
"If she would have gotten out of the car we may not have her here today we may be out looking for her so I'm just glad she had enough sense to not get out of the car," she said.
The young woman says the man was driving a White Crown Vic with blue lights in the grill.
He's described as being in his 40's, clean shaven, average build, wearing plain clothes. So, it's not a lot for officers to go on.
Sheriff's deputies are comparing this case with all previous officer impersonation cases to see if there are any connections.
