(MOBILE, Ala.) - New details have surfaced about the Mobile Police officer involved in a deadly accident Friday night.

Police say Officer Richard Brown was driving west on Government Street responding to a shots fired call when Michael and Mary Bragg stepped in front of his car.

Michael died from his injuries that night. His wife Mary is still in critical condition at USA Medical Center.

Officer Brown was hired in February of 2011. He's still in his probationary period with the department.

Mobile Police Chief Micheal Williams said Officer Brown is currently on paid leave to emotionally address what happened.

The 31-year-old officer joined the force in February. Before then, he worked as a police officer for the Millry in Washington County and as an officer for the University of South Alabama. Chief Williams said it's not clear when the officer will come back to work for Mobile.

"Some cases take longer than others. So we'll monitor him and make sure that he's okay," he said.

Police say Officer Brown had the green light at the intersection when he was responding to the call. They also said he was driving 43 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone.

The department is not saying if there was dash cam video of the incident of his car even had the system installed.

It is a tragic event. On events in this nature, we send our officers to our chaplain or to counseling, and they have to be cleared to come back to work. At this point, he has not been cleared," said Chief Williams.

Hey Oh S**t...for the forth time, this is what I said..."the accidents on Airport and in P'cola didn't involve a cop." What profanity? Perhaps you can show me? I'm still waiting for the DA to say whether or not charges will be brought in the death of the young man at Dawes and Johnson several months ago. If the issue isn't pushed by the public...it's pushed to the back burner by the authorities! Don't concern yourself about me... you have enough issues to occupy your waking hours!

Oh and seriously longie watch that BP. We have an Excessive Heat Advisory you know and I don't know if you have anyone to check in on you to see if you're okay. Keep the AC going or go to the Senior Center or the Mall if you need to. Well got to go - be safe - stay calm. It's going be okay.

My, my, my longie - hope you carry on. I hope you're not saying that those deaths don't need the same scrutity that the one on Government just because a policeman was not involved. Please answer my question - simple yes or no will do. And please no profanity. Children read this you know. Let the investigation proceed. When it's over if you don't like, then contact the powers that be and voice your opinion - or better yet qualifying is just around the corner - why not run for City Council or Mayor yourself. You probably wouldn't win but at least your views would be out there for review by your fellow citizens. After all, that's the American way.

Hey Oh S**t...Why don't you quit trying to deflect and go back to fluffing! At the risk of repeating myself...the accidents on Airport and in P'cola didn't involve a cop. No it's not hard to type while laughing but it is with your mouth full!

As President Reagan would say "There you go again longie!" Been watching too much CSI. It takes a little longer to do all the forinsics and investation in the real world (not working on having to finish up in an hour) And both you and jere would be howling if they released a video and it put any case or lack of in peril. Oh, were any of you at the Night Out last night at the Mall? It would have been a perfect opportunity for you to ask the Chief anything you wanted. My hard question is why not the outrage over the teen who was run down on Airport Blvd and the quickness that police said no charges would be filed? Oh, I forgot, a policeman wasn't involved. Oh, and Jere, we don't live in a democracy, we live in a Rebublic. Ck out your pledge and Ben Franklin.

In a democracy the people deserve to know what is really happening when a citizen is killed and seriously injured by law enforcement. If there is a video of this tragedy it needs to be released to the public. If it is indeed a tragic accident the video will help to exonerate the officer and truly heal from it. If there is culpability then he needs to be held accountable.

Per Fox 10 news...Brown was responding to a shots fired call on Macy Place which is one block west of Catherine St. Which make him the closest unit...I wonder why? Could it be because the entire force was on Dauphin St. downtown for the Mayor's and Chief's dog and pony show! It's no wonder they're toe dancing and stalling the release of the video!
