(LOXLEY, Ala.) July 2 - The Baldwin County Sheriff's Office says no charges have been filed against a man who allegedly shot his brother-in-law late  Wednesday night.

Deputies say his wife and child left because of domestic violence, but Andrew Buettner, 37, was on a mission to find them and went to his brother-in-law and sister-in-law home looking for the two and forced his way into the house.

Cpt. Steve Arthur with the Baldwin County Sheriffs Office says Buettner's brother-in-law thought he was going to be attacked or assaulted, and he fired a shot from a 0.45-caliber pistol,  striking the victim in the chest.

Buettner died from the shot.

Deputies say Buettner had already been to the house earlier in the day, but went back around 11 P.M. Wednesday night to check again.

Arthur says Buettner was adament about finding out the location of his wife and family, and deputies say his wife and child weren't there when he was shot.

Maj. Anthony Lowry says he is not going to release the name of Buettner's wife, but authorities say she is a teacher at Central Baldwin Middle School.

Arthur says they believe his brother-in-law, David Daniel, acted in self-defense. He also says his wife did the right thing by trying to get away from a difficult situation, because Buettner has a lengthy criminal history relating to drugs and violence
