(DAPHNE, Ala.) December 2 - It's now a holiday tradition. New York City firefighters make their way to the Gulf Coast each year to help the less fortunate. LOCAL 15 was there when a convoy of trucks arrived in Daphne Wednesday. Eight trucks and 32 NYC firefighters are on a mission. They've made this drive every year for 5 years now. Firefighters who braved the attack on New York on September 11, all remember how the Gulf Coast responded to help them in 2001.
"We formed a bond with the people down here after Katrina when we brought vital supplies water, potatoes, rice etc," says New York firefighter Tom O'Donnel. Daphne firefighters will host the group Wednesday, Thursday it's on to Bayou La Batre - the first stop along the coast in making someone else very happy.
"You know when you see the faces on the kids you know when you give out the toys its worth every second," says firefighter Jim Jacobs. All the toys were donated by people in New York. After delivering toys in Bayou La Batre Thursday the firefighters will then travel to Mississippi and New Orleans.
