(MILTON, Fla.) The family of a Robertsdale two-year-old stabbed to death by his father spoke to Local 15 Friday.
Two-year-old Michael Harrison's father, Micah Harrison, is charged with the crime.
Police say Harrison stabbed the toddler to death while visiting family in Indiana earlier this month.
Now the toddler's mother, Megan Kelley, is staying with her parents in Milton, Florida.
Friday, as Kelley sifted through the photos of her baby boy, happy memories came flooding back.
"He was so happy. He was really a mama's boy," said Kelley.
But the good times are quickly overshadowed by the events that took place last Wednesday.
"I know it's going to hit me Saturday when I have to bury him. I don't know it just doesn't seem real," cried Kelley.
She says her common law husband, Micah Harrison, took their three children to his parents’ home in Indiana without her permission after the two got into a fight. That's where police say Harrison stabbed his 2-year-old son in the chest with a knife and in the head with a nail puller.
"He was playing. That's what goes through my head. Did he reach for his daddy to give him a hug? Was he like, pick me up? Was he grinning at him? I can't stand that thought," wailed Kelley, who's left wondering, why.
"We had this great Christmas, what happened? I want to know what happened. What could he have done to make you want to hurt him? I mean if you were mad at me why would you go after my son? He's just a baby!" said Kelley.
Court records show Harrison has an extensive criminal history, including drug and alcohol charges.
Kelley says Harrison abused her during their entire relationship, but never hurt her kids until last week.
She hopes other moms learn from her mistake.
"Don't stay. If you feel like you're doing the right thing by keeping the family together and you want the daddy there, don't do it. It's wrong. It's not right. It's not going to help," said Kelley.
Kelley is focusing now on taking care of her two young girls, 5-year-old Katie and 4-year-old Kylie.
"I don't have anything now. I don't have a source of income nor do I have a bunch of experience to get a job," said Kelley.
The family is now living with Kelley's parents.
"It's very hard. He was loved and we'd like to know just why this tragedy had to happened," said Michael Harrison's grandfather, Sean Kelley.
"You're a mom. You're supposed to fix it and make it better. I just feel useless," said grandmother Debbie Kelley.
There are just no words to comfort a grieving mother, who wants nothing more than to see her precious child one more time.
"I'm here and I love you and I'm so sorry. I know he wants to know where I'm at. I know he was wondering where I was because I fix everything and I wasn't there," Kelley cried.
A benefit account is now set up for the family in Michael Wade Harrison's name at Pen Air Federal Credit Union.
The toddler's funeral is 2pm Saturday in Milton, FL at Bible Way Baptist Church.
