(THEODORE, AL) Dec. 2-- New information after a woman was murdered at a group home for the mentally challenged in Theodore. Friends tell LOCAL 15, Cindy Longmire feared her ex-boyfriend and father to some of her children, may resort to violence. Longmire was gunned down at the home Tuesday morning. A short time later, police arrested Demetrius Thomas at an apartment complex.
Larry Nelson heard the gunfire. "I heard three shots, but a girl that was in there said that he actually shot five times." Police say Thomas was pulling the trigger, while the couple's children were in school.
"The first thing I thought of were those kids," Courtney Rouse said. "Her drive was not for herself, it was for the kids." Kids who were looking forward to a new life with their hardworking mom. Rouse says Habitat for Humanity was about to begin building Longmire's new home. "The fact that it was taken away from those kids, who love their mom, who were excited about the life they were going to start...I'm speechless."
Rouse says there were signs the loving mother of four was scared of her ex-boyfriend. "She did say she did not feel comfortable signing our waiver for our media, because she didn't want him to know where her house was going to be, she didn't go into details with me, but she did say that was a concern for her." Friends, co-workers, and neighbors all say Longmire worked several jobs to give her children a better life. Now, those four kids she worked so hard for, are left without their mom.
