FAIRHOPE, Ala. (WPMI) Saturday police said 49-year-old Paige Roe had disappeared during an afternoon walk. Sunday she was found at a church with injuries to her head shoulder and knee.
Police say Roe got those injuries from a fall.
"We know God put her on that church sidewalk for us to find," said Roe's mother Jackie Simpson.
It was after 8 p.m. Sunday when the woman everyone seemed to be looking for was found lying down at the local Presbyterian church parking lot.
"It appears she fell down at some point. She had an abrasion to her temple, she had a bruise on her shoulder and also a contusion on her knee that would be consistent with falling down," said Fairhope Police Sgt. Fred King.
Police say Roe fell after she left home to go for a walk and may have been knocked unconscious.
"We found her you know at the church and she's well. She's doing fine. She's going to be fine and we're just thankful for that," said Simpson.
A nearly 24 hour search, which included a helicopter, search dogs, the sheriff's flotilla and scores of people turned up little at first. Police say there were tips, there were stories but in the end Paige Roe had simply become disoriented, lost.
She was found less than three blocks from her home.
"Where she was at and what she was doing I went there and everything was consistent. I found her driver's license this morning where she said she had been. I don't see anything or nothing that was indicative of anybody else being involved. no foul play," said King.
:A big thank you from Roe's family to the dozens of people who helped. And that's what saved us. That's what saved her and it was great,"said Simpson.
A vigil that was planned for Monday night was rescheduled to be a celebration instead.
