WETUMPKA, Ala. (AP) - The mother of a University of South Alabama freshman killed by a campus police officer says she's been told he never touched the officer who shot him.

Gil Collar of Wetumpka was naked when he was fatally wounded on campus early Saturday. University officials have said he assumed a "fighting stance" and chased the officer before being shot, but they haven't said he was armed.

Collar's mother, Bonnie Smith Collar, said Monday she's been told by someone involved in the investigation that surveillance video shows her son didn't touch the officer.

Collar says she's getting conflicting information about what happened. But she's urging people to withhold judgment about her son until all the facts are out.

Here2Long you're sure brave coming here and posting a lot of provocative responses to a clear-cut case of police brutality. Why don't you post under your real name and give us an address where you live if you want to defend these comments as legitimate? Make no mistake, police are not allowed to use deadly force unless there is no alternative, and in this case I can think of a thousand alternatives. Gil posed absolutely no imminent threat to the officer, who could have used mace, a stun gun, a baton, or pure physical power to subdue the naked, 5'7 135lb 18 year old. The officer is being externally investigated by the DA's office, which means criminal charges are likely imminent and the man will never wear a badge again for the rest of his life and likely serve some, but not nearly enough, time in jail for what is essentially 2nd degree homicide.

The cop wasn't nude, acting erratically at 0130, Collar was and he was held accountable!

Paid leave while incident is under investigation. And the officer's name isn't be released to the public. Why? Because he's been through such a traumatic experience? What do you think victim's mother feels like? She just lost her son in a senseless and completely avoidable tragedy. The cop needs to be held accountable. I smell the stink of a cover-up, but the air will freshen up again with the sweet smell of a major lawsuit.

Who told her? Not the officer, Campus PD or Administration...so who told her? Perhaps you should get some facts before you start. Quit trying to sensationalize the story to attract an audience. What we do know is Collar was nude at the Campus PD at 0130, acting erratically! One things for sure, I've never heard a bad word about a dead person!
