Here is your problem- inexperiended truck drivers!! The companies nowadays are hiring people that have little to no experience driving big rigs. They pick them out of these truck driving schools and the majority of them are not qualified or familiar with how to drive a tractor tailer. The companies are now hiring many people from foreign countries and most can't speak english much less read the signs on the roads. I see this everyday, drivers taking off from the Interstate shoulder from a dead stop and causing motorist to swerve from hitting them. It's the type of drivers that are being hired that crash into the tunnel repeatedly, and anything short of a large collapsing massive 30'X 12' steel foot door sealing off the tunnel from entry won't stop them from doing this all the time. They can't read the signs and the GPS is telling them which way to go.

Noodie, sounds like you're talking about the 4 lane I-10 tunnel,(Wallace tunnel) this story is about the 2 lane govt st tunnel(bankhead), because I'm sure you wouldn't take your motor home through the 2 lane tunnel would you?

You've also got to realize that the traffic from the other entrances or ramps take away some of your attention prior to entering the tunnel on the west side entrance. It's all too close together. The idiots that designed all those ramps so close together left many accidents just waiting to happen! On the other hand, if everyone drove according to the speed limit as they should, those type of accidents would be very rare. I've been through there many times in my motorhome and the speed freaks are all over you when you do try to drive the limits. They'll either cut in front of you as if you weren't even there or they'll ride your ass until they can pass.
