(MOBILE, Ala.) - A Mobile Police Officer under investigation for alleged inappropriate conduct with a minor has resigned, the Police Department said Friday in a news release.

Officer Marshall Freeman is suspected of having sexual contact with a 16-year old girl in late 2009.  Freeman was placed on administrative leave March 3, after the launch of an administrative and criminal investigation. He resigned Thursday, as the department was preparing an administrative hearing on the matter.

Police Chief Tyrone Williams calls Freeman's alleged offense, "not only unethical but also egregious."

"This is the type of behavior that will never be tolerated in the Mobile Police Department, as Police Chief I will work tirelessly to repair the reputation this department and remove the cancers who plague it,” said Williams.

The investigation of Freeman is expected to continue and police say the results will be presented to the District Attorney's Office.

Freeman is a 20-year veteran of the Mobile Police Department. He was assigned to the Community Services Division.

His a** should be sitting in mobile metro jail facing statutory rape charges.

Why does it seem some of you are blaming this child or assuming she is lying. These men needs to STOP! This is ridiculous. If she is not telling the truth, he had to have had some type of contact with her to use his name in her accusations. These men see these fully development girls and lose their minds. They are aware of their ages once they try to hold a conversation and can tell these are little girls. Shame on him..I am sure his family is totally embarrased and ashamed.

Marshall Freeman might soon be a not Free-man. If this is true he is simply EVIL! 20 year career and he jeopardizes it all for a under aged young girl.

Guilty or not, the accusation is enough to ruin their life. It wouldn't be the first time child in trouble lied!

I really hope for the officer this is all a big lie, and the officer couldn't handle all the stuff in the paper and news stations about him thats why he resigned. He was a cop for 20 years, why would he do something like this now? Thats the question???? Did they look at his back ground for anything like this before? Did they look at the girl to see if she is really telling the truth or does she just want people to feel sorry for her,so she wouldn't go to jail.

Everyday there is a new shocking incident where a person in a position of trust and authority finds themselves on the wrong side of the law. It's all because of the deteriation in society of morals and values. You have Techers molesting their students, Cops having sex with underage kids, Preachers in gay chatrooms and picking up whores. This world is doomed!

Cops, teachers, preachers and others in a position of trust. Again, who'll protect us from the protectors!
