(MOBILE, Ala.) May 29 - Two new county programs will make it a little easier for some people to buy homes in Mobile County. It's called the Mobile County HOME Program. NBC 15 News found out how it works, and who's eligible.

In a bad economy, not everyone can afford to buy a house right now.  That’s why Mobile County officials have made things a little easier for people to get the house of your dreams. These 3 bedroom houses in Mobile County are ready to be lived in and with the help of Mobile County officials, they may get homeowners sooner than that. Nancy Johnson, the spokesperson for Mobile County says, "These programs actually make it an opportune moment for some people to buy a house now."

There are two different programs. The first helps with your down payment. Johnson says, “The county will pay up to $10,000 toward the closing costs and down payment costs for a qualified individual."

To qualify for this program, you have to be a first time home buyer, have good credit and meet income requirements. A single person must make less than $27,700 to be eligible. Johnson says, "We are looking for people who can make good on these home loans."

The second program is for new construction home loans. Up to 30,000 dollars is available as a deferred loan. It's helped people like first time home buyer, James Bass. "That makes me feel good cause by the time I’m 45, I’ll be almost done paying my home." Bass says, without this program he never would have been able to buy his house at the age off 22.

All first time home buyers participating in the home program are eligible this year for a tax credit of up to eight thousand dollars if they purchase a home before November 30th.
