Mobile County Asst. District Attorney Suddenly Resigns
(MOBILE, Ala.) April 6 - Mobile County Assistant District Attorney Steve Giardini has suddenly resigned, multiple agencies confirmed Monday. District Attorney John Tyson, Jr., told NBC 15 News he is "shocked" and "disappointed."
What led to the resignation was still unclear Monday afternoon, but District Attorney John Tyson, Jr., said a search warrant had been issued at Giardini's home Saturday. No details of the search warrant were given. Tyson said Giardini later refused to answer Tyson's questions and subsequently resigned.
Giardini specialized in prosecuting sex crimes against minors. More recently, he was heading up the prosecution in the case against former Mobile County judge, Herman Thomas, who is accused of letting local inmates out of jail early in return for sexual favors.
Giardini had also been working on the case against former Chickasaw police officer Bob Ingle, who is accused of raping his 11-year-old stepdaughter. The alleged victim, Becca McEvoy, died before the case went to trial. Her family continues trying to move the case forward.
