MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) The Mobile City Council has been invited to Hamburg, Germany for a tour of the Airbus facilities there. All seven council members, the mayor and members of the airport authority have been invited for the March trip.

Mayor Sam Jones and Governor Robert Bentley visited Hamburg back in November.

Council member Reggie Copeland said it's a great opportunity to meet with other Airbus suppliers who could make the move to the Port City.

"They want to have some of the suppliers that will be coming to Mobile later in April when there's a groundbreaking ceremony for the assembly plant," Copeland said.

Copeland said Airbus will likely cover hotel accommodations in Germany while the city would cover the cost of airfare for the trip.

The city would be much better off to send someone with a little intelligence since these poeple (Airbus) are going to be doing business in Mobile.

How about a city wide vote. 1( The council goes to Germany at our expense or 2) The mayor and council stays here to balance the budget. 5 Million in the hole with the 1% tax increase, so they go hunting business. So when they find it they can come back and tell us they need more tax to pay for them to move here. The Police Chief needs to go also. He got his 1% tax hike so the police could continue to fight crime. They report crime is down in the city, but wants more money. I guess they need another bonus.
