MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) Despite the state EMA director saying it's legally impossible for Mobile to combine two storms to get financial assistance, the mayor said he's pushing forward.
Mayor Sam Jones sent a letter to Governor Robert Bentley this week, asking for some sort of assistance. When Local 15 News talked with the mayor Saturday, he said he spoke to EMA Director Art Faulkner about the city's options.
"Very unusual to have two tornadoes in five days. And we're just asking for some relief. If FEMA doesn't give the declaration, we're asking the state or what other private agencies may come in to help some of our citizens who were devastated," said Mayor Sam Jones.
The Small Business Administration this week approved loans for storm victims in Mobile and surrounding counties. The loans allow renters and homeowners to borrow up to $40,000 for their property. They can borrow up to $200,000 to repair a primary residence.
Businesses and non profit organizations can borrow up to $2 million.
