(MT. VERNON, Ala.) The body of a Mobile County man was found Friday morning in waters near Mount Vernon, authorities said.
Mount Vernon Public Safety Director Jerry Taylor said the man has been identified, but investigators are withholding his name until his family has been notified. Taylor said he is a white male in his sixties.
Taylor said they received the call at 10:54 a.m. A fisherman had spotted the man floating in the waters of Shepard Lake Landing. Taylor said a cause of death is still under investigation, but there is no sign of foul play.
"It would be classified as an investigation into a death," Taylor said. "It does not appear to be a homicide at this point, but it's still early and there are a lot of factors that are still under investigation."
Authorities did not determine how long the man had been in the water.
Taylor said no boat nor any other vehicle were found in and around the area that would have belonged to the man.
