GLEN ROSE, Texas (AP) - Texas law enforcement officials say a man has been charged with murder in the shooting deaths of two men at a Texas gun range yesterday.
One of the victims was 38-year-old Chris Kyle, who wrote the best-selling book, "American Sniper," detailing his 150-plus kills of insurgents from 1999 to 2009 as a Navy SEAL. The other man killed has been identified as 35-year-old Chad Littlefield.
The two men were killed yesterday afternoon at Rough Creek Lodge's shooting range west of Glen Rose. Witnesses told sheriff's investigators that the gunman fled in a pickup truck belonging to one of the victims.
Sgt. Lonny Haschel with Texas Department of Public Safety said in a news release that 25-year-old Eddie Ray Routh of Lancaster was arraigned Saturday on two counts of capital murder.
Police said they believe Routh shot the two men at about 3:30 p.m. and fled. Routh was found at about 8 p.m. Saturday at his residence in Lancaster, police said.
The motive for the shooting remains unclear.
