(SEMMES, Ala.) - Scary moments for folks living on Denmark Road in Semmes Friday afternoon after a man barricaded himself inside his home, armed with a shotgun and threatening suicide.

Police, SWAT team and K-9 units were all called to the scene. The whole situation didn't last long.

People living in the area were extremely thankful the situation wasn't worse. According to the Mobile County Sheriff's Office, the man fired a couple of shots but no one was hurt. SWAT teams, sheriff's deputies armed with rifles, canine units and emergency teams all swarmed the home.

Authorities forced neighbors in the area to stay away from their homes until the scene was clear.

"He apparently was ill and was threatening to shoot everybody. Has he ever done anything like this before? Yes," said neighbor Vickie Legg.
