JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour and parole officials say they didn't know a man was charged with DUI after a fatal wreck that happened between the time his pardon application was investigated and when Barbour granted it.

The Parole Board investigated Harry Bostick's application for pardon from a felony DUI and sent a favorable recommendation to Barbour on Sept. 30. Barbour signed the pardon Jan. 10.
Parole Board Chairwoman Shannon Warnock and Barbour's spokeswoman said Saturday they didn't know Bostick was charged with DUI after an accident in October because it happened after the investigation. The accident killed 18-year-old Charity Smith.

Bostick is charged with DUI, but not with causing her death. The pardon won't wipe out the new charges. A former U.S. attorney was among those supporting Bostick's pardon.

@carlr, Do you even bother to read any stories before you leave a comment? The Mississippi Governor (Haley Barbour) can't run for reelection and he has served his last day in office when he granted all the pardons. And even the former Miss. Attorney General wasn't going back ito office. And furthermore the Pardon and Parole Boards are made up of appointees.
