MPD Mourn Loss of One of Their Own

(MOBILE, Ala.) - Mobile police are mourning the death of one of their own.

LOCAL 15 News has learned Lieutenant Tommy Menton died Monday afternoon – several sources with the department have confirmed it was suicide.

Lieutenant Menton had been with the police force more than 30 years.

Just about anyone who went downtown probably came into contact with Lieutenant Menton. He was always a friendly officer who was in charge of the downtown precinct. He was also know for his love of the Mobile police mounted unit.

Lieutenant Menton also had a love for motorcycles. He restored a vintage one in honor of his mentor.

On his Facebook page, dozens of people have left their condolences, talking about what a great officer he was and how he will truly be missed.

Lieutenant Menton will also be missed by us here at LOCAL 15. For a short time, he worked security for us here at the television station.

I have known Tommy and his family my entire life. There is nothing but GOOD things to say about him and the family.He was a sweet kid that grew into a fine man.May he rest in peace.
