NEW ORLEANS, La. (WPMI) In New Orleans, the federal government, attorneys for a few Gulf Coast states and BP's attorneys are all in court Monday for the beginning of the trial over the oil spill.

The trial is expected to assign blame and help figure out exactly how much more BP and other companies should pay for the nation's worst offshore oil spill.

Casi Callaway, with Mobile Baykeeper, joined Local 15 News at Noon Monday to discuss the trial and BP's responsibility for the spill.

"We are ready to put restoration projects in the ground," Callaway said. "We have a long list of them that are excellent and that will do so much to getting real-life recovery."

The trial in New Orleans is also expected to determine what caused the blowout of the Deepwater Horizon in April 2010 that triggered the worst oil spill in U.S. history.

"We want to see BP pay," Callaway said. "Luther Strange said it so well today. He said BP cared more about profits then they did about the Gulf. That's unacceptable behavior. That's not capitalism, that's greed. We've got to do more to make sure BP pays the full restitution for what they've done."
