OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. (WPMI) Beaches in Okaloosa County will be patrolled come next weekend.

Okaloosa Beach Safety officials say lifeguards will be on duty beginning March 9, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., through October.

Beach flag conditions will be announced daily. CLICK HERE for daily updates.

A new lightning safety featured was added in 2011. The ThorGuard Lighting Prediction System reads the activity within the electrostatic field of an approaching weather system. It then predicts the probability of a lightning strike

Green flags: low hazard with calm swimming conditions
Yellow flags: medium hazard
Red flags: high hazard
Purple flags: marine pests are present.

If a double red flag is flying, the water is closed for swimming.
