PRICHARD, Ala. (WPMI) A judge has granted a Temporary Restraining Order against Prichard Police Chief Jimmie Gardner, pushing him out of office for at least the next ten days.

Last week
Mayor Troy Ephriam requested a restraining order against Chief Jimmie Gardner in an effort to remove him from his job. Ephriam claims Gardner's contract expired November 30.

Gardner has refused to step down. He is saying he has a valid contract, approved by the city council, extending his term as Chief for another five years.

There was no ruling on the validity of Gardner's contract.

In his ruling Wednesday, Circuit Judge Joseph Johnston said Gardner should immediately vacate his office. Judge Johnston also gave Gardner until 11pm Wednesday to return his city issued guns, car and other equipment.

The mayor has appointed two captains to take over the department.

A January 4 hearing is scheduled to discuss what happens beyond this 10 day Temporary Restraining Order.

If you want better for prichard, tell all of those unemployed, ebt receiving residents to get a job! The chief was under a contract. When a contract expires, the business is over. Need to get rid of some of those worthless police officers too.
