(MILTON, Fla.) Jan. 7 - Fire crews were still on the scene Wednesday morning, putting out hot spots after a fire engulfed an entire city block in downtown Milton.

The fire broke out about 7 p.m., Tuesday night. It’s being called the largest fire in Milton.

Investigators say the fire started in a building on Caroline Street and quickly engulfed three more buildings, along with the historic Imogene Theatre. Firefighters battled the blaze for five hours last night, fighting wind and storms.

Wednesday morning, roads surrounding Downtown Milton are closed. Officials say Caroline Street/U.S. Hwy. 90 is closed between Canal and Willing Streets, but Ward Basin Road has been reopened.

Tuesday night, one firefighter was overcome with smoke and taken to Santa Rosa Medical Center. He’s said to be OK.

Investigators are still trying to find out what sparked the fire.
