Highway 98 Crash Victim Identified, Kids in Critical Condition

DAPHNE, Ala. (WPMI) Daphne Police are investigating after a fatal accident Friday morning on Highway 98. It happened at 98 and Pickett Avenue.

Police tell Local 15 News a teenager lost control of her car and hit another vehicle that was stopped at a stop sign.

In that vehicle was 47-year-old Chequita Chaney Grier, her daughter and three grandchildren.

The children, a 3-year-old boy and 5-year-old girl, are both in critical condition after being air lifted to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola. Their mother is in stable condition.

Daphne Police Chief David Carpenter says so far no charges have been filed against the teen driving the vehicle.

The investigation continues.

Just last week, the same situation happened on Dauphin Street. A woman leaned down to get her phone and ran a red light. Fortunately, the person she hit was not badly injured, but her vehicle is totaled. Cell phones are not conducive to safe driving. When are people going to understand this!!!!
