(MOBILE, Ala.) June 29 -- Juniors at Mobile County high schools will not get to take the ACT for free. That was the decision made by the school board Monday night.
Students will also still have to take the test on Saturday, instead of during the school day. The college entrance test is offered to high school students at a cost of $46 and they have to come to school for four hours on the weekend to take the test.
"I certainly understand the school board's desire to protect the funds," Superintendent Dr. Roy Nichols said. "My job is to make educational recommendations. We'll be fine."
Only eight other school systems in the U.S. allow students to take the ACT for free.
