MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Alabama's governor has signed two bills and an executive order that he says will lead to greater government efficiency and cost savings.

Gov. Robert Bentley announced Thursday that he had signed into law legislation to consolidate many of the state's law enforcement programs and to create an information technology secretary in his Cabinet. He says the new laws will save money through better coordination in administration and purchasing and may reduce state employees through attrition. The governor said he expects to name a public safety leader and an IT secretary soon.

Bentley also signed an executive order to establish a fleet manager at the state Department of Transportation. The governor said that new position will look for more efficient ways to manage the state's 5,800 vehicles.
