MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) Gas prices are on the way back up. According to AAA, the average price per gallon in Mobile is $3.62. That is a lot higher than just a few months ago when prices hovered around three dollars.
Local 15 found gas stations with prices ranging from $3.65 to as high as $3.72. According to gasbuddy.com increased 18 cents per gallon within the last week.
Jennifer Sheldon said her husband commutes back and forth to Birmingham for work. The drive has created some serious budget problems for the Sheldons.
"It dips into your pocket," said Sheldon. "We were at the top now. We were at the bottom that I allowed myself for gas each month, but now it's pushing."
The couple even purchased a smaller sized car to compensate for gas.
"He was driving a diesel truck. So we were saving about $200 a month. Now it's probably not that much because of gas prices," said Sheldon.
According to AAA, the spike in price is partly because crude oil prices are on the risk and investors have not been eager to make moves. Local 15 asked residents how they were coping with the price spike.
Sheldon said, "We'll probably hang around home instead on going on any type of vacation due to gas prices."
"I'm actually thinking about riding a skateboard to work," said
AAA said prices will continue to rise within he next few weeks and will eventually plateau. The good thing is AAA does not expect prices to rise above four dollars.
