MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) A gag order request in the Eight Mile odor case was postponed Friday after the judge revealed to attorneys that he may be a little too close to the case for their comfort.

Two weeks ago the attorneys representing Mobile Gas filed a motion, requesting attorney Patrick Courtney, who represents some Eight Mile residents, from speaking to the media.

Today before the court hearing began, Judge Ben Brooks told the attorneys involved that both he and his clerk have ties to other attorneys representing other Eight Mile residents.

The attorneys involved in the gag order request are talking with their clients and will let the judge know next week if they're comfortable with him handling their case.

To speed up the process, a new judge may be appointed.

It is all about keeping potential jurors out of the loop in case it goes to trial. The lawyers for Mobile Gas want the public to be in the dark and little does he realize that the cat is out of the bag already. Everyone that reads and hearsginews knows about the stench and odor. The best thing for Mobile Gas to do is pay everyone in the area that has piled on to the lawsuit and offer them a settlement. A local jury won't be too synpathetic towards a local utility company already gouging and over charging their customers with higher than normal natural gas rates. Apparently Attorney Rick Courtney seeks out these type of cases and he has made good money off of them in the past. here is a suggestion to Mobile Gas... pay the folks for their pain, suffering, and disruption in lifestyle and stop the odor... it's that simple! If I am chosen to be on the jury I will certainly stick it to Mobile Gas big time!

As I said before, there's no need for a gag order; the people of Eight Mile have been gagging for years.
