(MOBILE, Ala.) - A regional tourism society recognized Mobile's BayFest Music Festival as one of the top festivals for 2012 at a press conference in Downtown Mobile Thursday.
The Southeast Tourism Society awarded the annual music festival with the "Shining Example" award. Bayfest beat other annual events with an attendance of more than 100,000 across 12 states in the southeast. It is the first time BayFest received the award.
In order to be considered for the award, BayFest had to show a high level of organization, event production and community involvement.
"We did have a great event," BayFest President & CEO Bobby Bostwick said. "The weather was perfect, had no problems that I know of and we're already started on next year. We've already got a couple of acts booked early, and things are looking great."
Though this year's festival economic impact report is still being drawn up by University of South Alabama's Dr. Christopher Keshock, an earlier report states that, from the festivals inception in 1995 to 2011, the festival generated $254 million for the City of Mobile.
