(MOBILE, Ala.) Mobile Mayor Sam Jones, Police Chief Micheal T. Williams and hundreds of fellow officers converged at USA Medical Center Friday evening to meet with family members and to pray.

Fallen Officer Steven Green was 36 year old and leaves behind a wife and three children.

Green had only served on the force since May of 2010. We're told he normally worked at the city's 1st precinct, but today, he was on assignment at the 5th precinct.

A second officer was injured in the standoff. We're told that Mark Johnson is the husband of Mobile County Public Information Officer Nancy Johnson. Johnson was shot in the arm during the standoff with police. He received stitches and was released from USA Medical Center.

Sources tell LOCAL 15 News that Green was attempting to unload the suspect, Lawrence Wallace, out of the patrol car and into the Sally Port Area. Wallace managed to stab Green repeatedly in the neck. Police sources tell LOCAL 15 News Wallace used a medallion that he wore at the end of his necklace. Wallace showed that medallion to our cameras as police walked him, in handcuffs, from Mobile Police Headquarters before the stabbing.

Officers on the scene, consumed with grief, hugged each other while on the scene Friday afternoon.
