(MOBILE, Ala.) Friends and family of fallen Mobile Police Officer Steven Green lifted their spirits with prayer at a church service Sunday morning.
“We’re trying to stay strong to get through this,” Mae Starks, Green’s aunt, said.
Green, 36, left behind a wife and three young children, two girls and a three-year-old boy.
“The girls understand what’s going on,” Barbara Brown, another aunt, said. “[His son] is looking for his daddy, and he knows his daddy used to work a lot of overtime and could be gone for a day or two. But as time goes on, he knows something’s not right.”
At Lily Baptist Church, the pastor asked the congregation to pray for Green’s family and the Mobile Police Department.
"We pray for everyone affected by this terrible tragedy in our city," Pastor Donnie Lee Powell, Jr. preached. "We also remember the Mobile Police Department, because they are our family also.
“We do not understand why bad things happen to good people, Lord. But we know it is your will, Lord. Right now we pray for the Green family.”
Green’s family describe him as a hard-working, loving family man who was devoted to his family as well as his job.
“That was his dream to become a police officer,” Brown said. “He died doing what he loved to do. Protecting not only his family, but the whole community.”
