(MOBILE, Ala.)   The widow of Mobile Police Officer Steven Green spoke to the media Monday, expressing her thanks to the community for its support. Officer Green was stabbed to death while transporting robbery suspect Lawrence Wallace Friday afternoon.

"I just want to say thank you," says Valerie Green, "for all your prayers, phone calls, whatever it may be."

She says her husband loved the Mobile community and loved going to work every day to keep it safe. The family also shared photos of Green with his kids, mom, and other family members.

His wife remembers his giving, selfless personality.

"He was the sweetest person I've ever met," she says. "He would do anything for anybody."

Green's mother also said a few words, sending her condolences to Wallace's family.

"I love my son so, I'm in disbelief," says Green's mother Erica Hyter. "I can't believe this is actually happening."

The family tells us Green's three children are still struggling to understand what happened.
