(PENSACOLA, Fla.) - Authorities say they now know what caused a fire that killed two girls inside their Pensacola home.
Fire investigators say an overheated extension cord lead to the fire that trapped 10-year-old Te'Johnna Sanford and 8-year-old Te'Laysia Jackson in their bedroom.
The cord was in the girls bedroom and was underneath a dresser and several storage bins.
Fire investigators also say there were no smoke detectors in the house. The girls' mother and her boyfriend were able to escape the fire. Attempts to rescue the girls were unsuccessful because the flames were so overpowering.
